Crossing the Line, Losing Warmth

“Only after Huo Yanchen met Luo Yu did he understand: ‘a beauty whose charm could make fish sink and geese fall’ described not her looks, but their destined love.” [Marriage Before Love + Angsty Push and Pull + The Untouchable Falls from Grace + Older Man/Possessive Love + Mutual Pining] Everyone in Haicheng praised Luo Yu for her good temper. No one had ever seen her lose her temper or get angry. Even after marrying Huo Yanchen, the Ninth Master of the Huo family, she was famous as a devoted wife. Elegant and gracious in public, gentle and considerate at home. But in the third year of their marriage, the usually docile Luo Yu went to Huo Yanchen and asked for a divorce. At first, Huo Yanchen thought she was just throwing a tantrum. But she was cold and firm, leaving no room for negotiation. Only a day after they signed the divorce agreement, he saw her drinking with a younger man, bright and uninhibited. After that, she truly became herself again, her features relaxed and her spirit as free as the wind. Only then did Huo Yanchen realize he had never known the real her. Luo Yu had been secretly in love with Huo Yanchen for six years before finally marrying him. She thought that one day she would warm his heart. Then she overheard his childhood sweetheart laughing as she said, “She’s just a substitute.” So Luo Yu chose to give up and end the marriage herself. But once the divorce period was over, Huo Yanchen, usually so distant and indifferent, lost control and went mad. He used every means at his disposal to keep her by his side again. He stormed into her engagement party, pinned her hard against the wall, and bent down to seal her lips with a kiss. The man’s eyes were bloodshot. His pride shattered, he pressed his forehead to hers and choked out, “Luo Yu, don’t even think about it!” The once-mighty Ninth Master of Haicheng finally bent the knee for her. With red eyes and a hoarse voice, he said, “You can give up the position of Mrs. Huo, but you can’t give up on me.”
