The Heavenly Road: Happiness Comes to My Home

For generations, people on the northwestern Sichuan Plateau have lived in mountains that seem like a world apart. But this is a high-altitude region with steep terrain and isolated valleys. Since ancient times, people have said that the roads through Sichuan are harder to travel than the path to heaven. The region’s extremely poor transport links have restricted communication with the outside world and seriously hindered economic development in the mountains. To develop the western regions, the state included the Chengdu-Lanzhou Railway in its key Western Development projects for the 12th Five-Year Plan. Its construction shattered the mountains’ quiet and backwardness, bringing local people new opportunities and challenges, as well as greater prosperity and a brighter future. When Xue Shiya learns that a railway is about to be built in her hometown, she gives up her job in the city after graduating from university and returns to take part in its development. She experiences firsthand how difficult it is to build this railway to the sky and witnesses the changes it brings to her hometown. As she follows her heart and pursues her dream, she clashes repeatedly with her family. After enduring loss, disappointment, and countless hardships, she gradually grows and finds a happiness of her own.
