Where Does the Wind Come From?

You say that we have eradicated absolute poverty nationwide, so there’s no need to pay attention to the countryside? Wrong, wrong, wrong! Rural revitalization is still underway! You say rural work has no room for innovation, and grassroots work is backward and dull? No, no, no! Just look at the fresh approaches to rural assistance in this new era! You say young officials just go through the motions, and poverty alleviation is unlikely to produce results? Absolutely not! Young people are full of ideas and creative solutions! By the end of 2020, the campaign to eradicate poverty had been completed nationwide, but the road to rural revitalization remained long and difficult. As the country worked toward building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party, outstanding workers from every sector gathered on the front lines of grassroots work at the end of 2021. Among them were the fifth cohort of provincial “First Secretaries” assigned to villages, including Ling Kaishan. To advance rural revitalization, Ling Kaishan visited many rural workers and learned from their experience. Along the way, he heard countless moving stories of people helping rural communities, witnessed the splendid transformation of the motherland’s landscapes, and kept pace with the times by embarking on the arduous journey of revitalizing Maoshan Scenic Area through the forward-thinking idea of “online tourism.” Mutual support among outstanding colleagues broadens the effort, while the passing down of experience from veteran workers gives it depth. Together, they pave a bright road for rural revitalization. Through Ling Kaishan’s work, this novel tells the stories of different rural workers and the moving experiences behind them, revealing the great undertaking of rural revitalization. Against the vast backdrop of our times, every grassroots worker called to move forward is a soldier. In the end, countless soldiers unite into an army, putting pen to paper to fulfill the goals set for the centenary!
