I Was Born a Fine Lady

[The Husband-Chasing Crematorium + Running Away While Pregnant] To pay for her mother's treatment, Wei Chan plotted her way into the Duke of An's household as the personal concubine of heir Xie Huaize. Though Xie Huaize was handsome as a jade tree and seemed born to be charming and passionate, in truth he was rigid, indifferent to women, and strict about propriety. As the heir's only woman, Wei Chan didn't dare cross the line, afraid of provoking his displeasure and being thrown out. She served him diligently, playing the part of a proper personal concubine and never coveting wealth or status that didn't belong to her. Gradually, Xie Huaize found he couldn't do without her. Even after marrying his principal wife, he refused to send Wei Chan away to the estate. He told her, “The Meng family is respectable, and she is a daughter of a great house. She'll make room for you. There will always be a place for you by my side. Once my wife bears a legitimate son, I'll give you a child too, and you can stay with me for the rest of our lives.” Wei Chan thanked him profusely, then faked her death and fled, free to roam wherever she pleased. Later, she heard that the Duke of An's brilliant heir had gone mad. Later still, he cornered her against a wall and pulled her into his arms, his eyes bloodshot. Looking at her pleadingly, Xie Huaize rasped, “Yaoyao, don't leave me.”
