The Brocade-Clad Minister

He is the foremost young gentleman in the capital. She is a poor village girl. The noble ladies mock her: “You can’t even read, and you know nothing of literature.” She smiles calmly and effortlessly recites one classic poem after another, works that will be remembered for a thousand generations. The noble ladies sneer again: “So what if you’re learned? Your status is lowly, and you’re beneath notice!” But when the spring imperial examination results are announced, she transforms into the top scholar. Only then does the world learn that she once saved the emperor, and that she is the Grand Tutor’s sole disciple. She and the foremost young gentleman have been childhood friends. Su Xijin: “I’m going to serve in the provinces. I’m not a suitable match for you.” Han Wenyu: “I’m frail and often ill, so it’s just right for me to accompany you to your post.” He has the talent to govern a nation; she has the talent to govern its people.
