Chasing the Journey

Mortal life is hemmed in by birth, age, sickness, and death; in this world, no one can escape illness, pain, sorrow, and worry.

At thirty-five, Chen Xingheng is driven to the end of his life by the double blows of losing his job in middle age and terminal pancreatic cancer. He has only a few months left. The mortal world’s cycles of birth, aging, sickness, and death, its pain and sorrow, have already left him struggling to breathe. Without even getting the chance to say goodbye in person, he carries the dream he had as a young man of hiking across Tibet and sets out on his final journey.

Who could have guessed that this life-or-death trek would become an adventure across dimensions? As he ventures deep into Tibet’s hidden lands, he is swept into a fantastical, otherworldly realm. There are no familiar snow-capped mountains or lakes here, only strange and wondrous landscapes, creatures beyond imagination, and unknown laws.

His homeland lies thousands of miles away, and the way back is cut off. With what little life remains in him, Chen Xingheng continues to “hike” through this otherworld, enduring ethereal, fantastical adventures and trials. This final journey, meant to fulfill a dream, becomes the destiny of a lifetime spent in pursuit. In this unfamiliar realm, he will face even more extreme unknowns and seek another meaning of survival beyond the brink of despair.
