The Stone-Hearted One Asks

A thousand years of silence, broken by the beat of your heart.

For generations, the Lin family has guarded a “Demon-Sealing Stone” that fell from beyond the heavens, all to fulfill an ancient pact made a thousand years ago. Lin Zhao speaks to the stone day after day, convinced it is a pointless ritual.

Then, as evil spirits grow increasingly active and signs of imbalance appear in heaven and earth, the stone that had been silent since time immemorial steps out as a man on the night of the full moon.

His eyes are clear as crystal, and moonlight drapes him like a robe. Pointing at her racing heart, he asks softly, “Why is this beating?”

He will learn:

That scorching tears are called “sorrow.”

That damp palms are called “nervousness.”

That a trembling embrace is called “reluctance to let go.”

And that the greatest pain of all is knowing how it will end, yet choosing to walk toward her anyway.

She will come to understand:

The purest souls are often the most fragile.

The most eternal guardians are often the most silent.

And when the moon is willing to take on the warmth of the mortal world for you, that is the most humble and yet most solemn love the gods can give.
