The White Moonlight at Dusk

Synopsis of White Moonlight at Dusk

Under the blazing sun on the sports field in their sophomore year, Lou Xiangyue of the sports department and three very different girls from the Chinese department collide in one another's youth.

Song Nianyao pours her whole heart into a bold confession on May 20, only to receive a gentle rejection: “Your studies should come first.” Yet unable to let go, she waits quietly. Su Yueshu is as cool and distant as a white moonlight. A keepsake exchanged on Qixi Festival seals their bond, but a last-minute no-show on her birthday and the revelation of a secret hidden in half of an old photograph bring their relationship to a standstill. Lin Jinhe bursts into his life along a trajectory like a parabola, drawing closer step by step under the guise of acceptance and pushing their relationship to its peak, only for it to end abruptly in lies and betrayal.

Zhu Yan of the foreign languages department is like a red beauty mark, appearing only at pivotal moments and bringing deeply buried history to the surface. The campus library, basketball court, and little restaurant off campus witness their meetings, growing feelings, suspicions, and farewells. From sophomore year to graduation, three relationships intertwine as protagonists and supporting characters take turns in the spotlight: some wait with unwavering devotion, some seize the opportunity, some remain aloof and distant, and some leave in bitterness.

This is a coming-of-age story with the texture of real campus life, not piled high with melodramatic twists, but focused on young people testing and holding fast to love, missing their chances, and growing up. When the graduation bells ring, the white moonlight fades into distance, lingering regrets finally find their resolution, the heart's fervor gradually cools, and the red beauty mark becomes part of the past. Only then, amid the dusk, do they understand that every flutter of the heart and every regret of youth is one of life's most precious marks.
