At the parent-teacher meeting before National Day, the academic affairs director pointed to a perfect-score exam paper with the name hidden on the projector and announced to the room, “After a comprehensive review, the school has decided to award the scholarship to Lin Qian. Congratulations!” Amid the applause, she stared straight at me, her eyes full of warning. I raised two exam papers in front of everyone. One was identical to the one on the screen and bore the name Fang Yun. The other was Lin Qian's nearly blank paper.
“Director Liu, please explain why Lin Qian took my daughter's place.” The classroom fell completely silent. Director Liu's face turned deathly pale. But Lin Qian's mother slowly stood up, her face full of mockery. “You stole the original exam paper and changed my daughter's name to your own. Are you so desperate for a scholarship that you've lost your mind?”
I smiled and raised my phone. On the screen, a security video was playing: Lin Qian cheating during the exam, while the proctor who caught her turned a blind eye.
“I've made plenty of copies of the footage.” I looked at Director Liu. “If you don't give me an explanation today, it'll be headline news tomorrow.”
