Focusing on a Heartbeat

Lin Shen thought that getting the highest score on the exam only to be assigned to Midnight News, where she had to report stale stories as a “ghost anchor,” was the darkest moment of her twenty-three years of life. Then Cheng Qingyan came along, ready to take a knife to Midnight News and its redundant staff, and Lin Shen realized there was an even deeper pit beneath rock bottom. As it happened, a bar suddenly collapsed. At the scene, Lin Shen relied on her professional instincts to go live with an exclusive report. But she also instinctively rushed to help the injured, choosing to save lives over making a name for herself, and giving up the opportunity to stay in the spotlight. With her chance gone and the credit lost, Lin Shen thought she was finished. Little did she know that the stone-faced man had been quietly watching the figure moving against the crowd on camera. He silently crossed one name off the list of staff to be cut, and sent her onto a much more real battlefield.

“Remember the choice you made when you turned away from the camera. The truth matters more than how it’s presented.” That was Cheng Qingyan’s reason for choosing Lin Shen.

From that day on, they fought side by side, uncovering the truth and taking on powerful forces. They stood by the facts and went up against carefully fabricated fake news. They defended people’s dignity and exposed scandals. They became the perfect partners, symbols of truth and justice. On the night they claimed journalism’s highest honor, the lights shone bright and the applause thundered. Cheng Qingyan stood at center stage, still calm and composed. Away from the cameras, he clasped Lin Shen’s hand tightly and asked in his usual cool voice, with an unusual warmth beneath it, “Lin Shen, will you give me a chance to fulfill my ultimate dream in life?”
