It Came and I Loved It

This is not a book about dogs. This is a book about "family", but they happen to not be able to speak. From the trembling little black dog that my grandfather picked up during the war, to the golden Ah Huang who accompanied my aunt throughout her girlhood; from the short-lived sunspot like a shooting star, to the Doudou that eventually colored my mother's pale years, to the gift of fate when I was wandering in Beijing - the snowball... The joys and sorrows of four generations and the vicissitudes of nearly a century are all reflected in their silent gaze. They use a lifetime of loyalty to teach us how to love, and then use destined partings one after another to force us to understand loss. They have been here, using their furry bodies to resist the coldness of time. We have loved, let the brief intersection become the eternal stars. When the tombs in the yard quietly connect into a silent cemetery, when "no more" becomes the deepest farewell, we finally understand: some love is to teach you how to continue to live bravely with memories after losing it.
