The Night Returner of Futian

Lin Zhou lives in an urban village in Minzhi, Longhua, in a three-story old house his parents left behind, with the title deed in his father's name. He works for Galaxy Properties in Futian's CBD, a developer focused on urban renewal projects and heavily affected by government policy. He commutes on Metro Line 4, the “Sardine Can.” On one side are the arguments between his siblings in the old house; on the other is the deadline hanging over him at the office: “project signing rate.” The contrast between these spaces hints at the tug-of-war between family ties and personal gain.
