Growth Rings on Concrete

"Annals on Concrete" tells the story of Lin Wei, an ordinary civil engineering girl, who grew up over the past ten years.​ When she was a freshman, she entered an engineering college with ignorance about the construction industry, but she quickly encountered prejudice - from seeing a post in a high-level math class that said "90% of girls change careers" to being ridiculed as "the future construction site goddess" during her construction site internship, gender labels followed her everywhere. The seven-year study path was full of thorns: the design of the steel structure course was criticized as "too delicate", the number of graduate school admissions was less than that for boys because of its "adaptability", the postgraduate entrance exams were rushed in the snow and fell into the mud, and most of the 53 resumes submitted during the graduation season came to nothing.​ As a graduate student, she struggled with crack control research and workplace trials. Her thesis was questioned, and she encountered the rule of "the amount of alcohol determines the amount of projects" during her internship. After graduation, the school rejected her due to her "remote location", and the small unit proposed unequal pay for equal work, so she had no choice but to accept a labor dispatch position.​ The snoring of the prefabricated house, the taunts of the steel workers, and the inspection of the foundation pit in the heavy rain constitute her wandering daily life. After working for five years, the opportunity to become a full-time employee, invitations from self-media, recruitment in her hometown, transfer to Africa and an unexpected pregnancy pushed her to a crossroads in life. After the heavy rain, she walked to the muddy construction site holding a safety helmet. The future was like unsolidified concrete, full of unknowns and possibilities.​
