SaKi and the Unfinished Storyboard

Afternoon sunlight streamed through the old library's glass windows, casting mottled patterns of light between the thinly dusted shelves. As Shui Xia wiped mold from the book spines, her fingertips brushing over the gilt titles always brought back the drawings she'd hidden deep in the manga corner as a girl: unfinished storyboards, like secrets forgotten by time. Then SaKi appeared, like a breeze carrying the scent of fresh ink. She was always crouched in a corner with a yellowed manga in her arms, frowning as she complained one moment, then grinning at her sketchbook the next, while the characters she'd drawn leaped to life across the pages. "The storyboards here... they're so gentle." When SaKi happened upon that notebook, Shui Xia heard her own heartbeat shatter against the stacks of books. One guarded the past, while the other chased new stories. Amid the soft rustle of turning pages and the scratch of pencil on paper, a forgotten passion began to bloom again, and the library on the verge of disappearing was gradually suffused with warmth and color. Perhaps the most moving stories have always been hidden in that instant when you look up and your eyes happen to meet someone else's.
