My Husband Wants to Make His Concubine My Equal? The Tyrant Climbs the Wall to Fight for Me

Huo Qu has the whole empire at his feet, yet still feels unsatisfied. Then the curtain of the Yong'an Earl's carriage lifts slightly, revealing Dou Shi's peerless beauty. Jealousy rises in his heart. How did the Yong'an Earl get to have all the good things? When the earl is about to return to the capital, Huo Qu has Dou Shi seized and brought to his bed. Then he grows dissatisfied again. How could a woman like her let anyone else take a place in her heart? So he crushes her resistance, grips her trembling waist, and lays the highest power in the realm before her. “The inner palace is where you belong, Sui Sui. Be my empress, for all the years to come.” * Dou Suitan is a model of noble upbringing, a paragon of refined womanhood. She marries the Yong'an Earl, cares for his parents, manages the household, and earns the praise of the entire capital. But her mother-in-law dislikes her. While her husband is away at war, she sends Dou Suitan a letter of divorce, yet refuses to let her leave the estate. Then she hears that her husband has returned home with a mistress, whom he spoils in every way. Later, all for the sake of his so-called true love, he declares that he wants to make the mistress his equal wife. Only then does Dou Suitan realize that the man who sought her hand never loved her at all. All her hard work over the past year was a joke. Why be virtuous and proper? Why follow the rules? She learns to respond quietly in the brief moments between the emperor's acts of control. In the end, she wins his favor and escapes her cage. At last, Dou Suitan sits high on the phoenix throne, watching her former husband, the Yong'an Earl, kneel miserably below the steps and beg. “I heard what you asked for, Earl. But true love can overcome any hardship. You shouldn't give up halfway because of such a small obstacle.”
