Years in the Wrinkles

This is a true story salvaged from the dusty past, artistically reconstructed and polished. The characters in the book are not based on real people. Granny Hua, from the village, began a life of hardship amid turbulent times. As a child, she fled famine with her family, struggling to survive through hunger and cold as they wandered from place to place. Fate dealt her another cruel hand: she was trafficked twice, ending up in unfamiliar places. After marrying, she endured decades of domestic abuse, searching for a way out through despair and struggle.

After her husband died, she lived alone as a widow for half her life, shouldering the burdens of everyday life with her frail shoulders. The stories she told by the stove and beneath the eaves hold a wisdom and philosophy that cut through suffering, like sparks in the dark lighting the way for those around her. Hers is a soul battered time and again by fate, yet stubbornly continuing to grow. She is a portrait of countless resilient lives, and an ode to the ordinary and the extraordinary alike.
