Iwa City Is Not the Past

"Rock City Is Not the Past" is set in the late 1980s and early 1990s during China's reform and opening up. It describes three young people working in a state-owned enterprise in a northeastern city, Dachaizi, Xiaolou and Scholar, who are unwilling to accept the arrangement of fate and work hard to change their own destiny in the tide of market economy. This process includes their innocent and selfless friendship when they were young, but also conflicts in the face of interests. Revealing the character of human nature and the morality of traditional Chinese concepts, as well as the temptation of material and money, step by step, they finally lead them to their own destinations. The work also describes the Northeastern regional culture and customs from another aspect, showing the unique features of this special region in this special period. It eulogized the vibrant social atmosphere of that era and the source of power that drove China to gradually become prosperous and powerful.
