My Wife Stayed Faithful to Her Childhood Sweetheart for Fifty Years

I returned to the year I was to marry Grand Princess Zhaoyuan. Seeing that she was as radiant as ever, I was the one who proposed a divorce. In my previous life, I gave up my ambitions for her and confined myself to the inner quarters. I was so worried about her old illness that I willingly accepted the shame of being branded impotent. It wasn’t until she passed away and I was sorting through her belongings that I discovered the truth: throughout our fifty years of marriage, she had painted every year on the Qixi Festival to remember her first love. Only then did I understand that she had been saving herself for another man. In her final letter, she wrote, “Though A Xiu and I could not share a bed in life, we must share a grave in death.” If that was what she wanted, I would make it happen. When I opened my eyes again, I was back in the year of our wedding. This time, I took up my spear again and pacified the southern frontier. I traded my military achievements for a divorce agreement from her.
