After I Left the Industry, the Genius Singer-Songwriter Panicked

After I announced my retirement from the entertainment industry, everyone cheered. The only one who objected was Zhou Yao, my boyfriend’s rumored lover and a newly acclaimed songwriting prodigy. In front of a crowd of reporters, she put on an earnest act. “It was all a misunderstanding. Senior Shiyu is an indispensable talent in the music scene, and I truly hope she’ll return to it.”

I turned off my phone and ignored her public plea. In my past life, my work and her supposedly original single were exactly the same. Online, people called me a plagiarizing bitch and cursed my whole family to die. I couldn’t accept it, so I posted every step of my creative process, but nothing could outweigh the songs’ release times. Her new single had come out ten minutes before mine. Because of those ten minutes, people sent me funeral wreaths and photoshopped death portraits. Some even came to my house and splashed paint everywhere. Years of relentless online abuse left me depressed. My parents spent our entire fortune trying to clear my name, only to be burned to death by rabid fans. Finally, on the day her original song won an award, I leaped from a high-rise. When I opened my eyes again, I had been reborn on the day my new single was released.
