Journey to the West: Is He Really Here to Be a Ghost Officer?

Gu Chen transmigrates to the Underworld and becomes a ghost officer who fries the dead. Every soul he fries earns him 1 evolution point.

Soon, the whole Underworld changes.

"Damn it, I'm done frying. I'm going to lie flat. No matter how much I fry, I'll never catch up to Gu Chen's numbers."

Just as Gu Chen makes the frying department's grind unbearably relentless, the Underworld suddenly hooks a monkey back from the mortal world.

Gu Chen gets a new pot and fresh oil, ready to fry up a storm. But the monkey wreaks havoc and is let go again.

"Damn it, you ugly, sharp-muzzled monkey! Get back here!" Gu Chen chases after it, Soul-Beating Club in hand.

Before long, the souls in the frying department are no longer enough to satisfy Gu Chen, so he seeks out Black and White Impermanence.

"Do you think soul-catching is child's play? You think we can bring back as many souls as people die? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is? Don't soul-catching officers need a rest?"

"What else are soul-catching officers supposed to do if not catch souls?" Gu Chen retorts.

"How about we give you the Soul-Hooking Rope, and you give it a try?"

"Fine, I will!"

Gu Chen takes the Soul-Hooking Rope and leaves the Underworld. When he returns, he is leading a Taoist priest wreathed in imperial aura, wearing a crown and imperial robes, his face stern and imposing.

"Jade... Jade... Em..." Black and White Impermanence nearly wet themselves. Damn it, is this guy really here to be a ghost officer? Was he sent by the Celestial Court to stir up trouble?

"Gu Chen, we have a deal. After you fry Me, you'll come to the Celestial Court and serve as an immortal official."

"Funny, the one in the West said the same thing. He wants to make me a Buddha!"
