At the Moment of Life and Death, My Pilot Husband Calls His Ex

As the plane hurtled onto the runway at a dangerous speed, more than a hundred knots above normal, my captain husband said something to his ex-girlfriend. I was in the control tower and heard every word. They had faced life and death together. Their love was true, so how could I not give them my blessing? Much later, he deliberately piloted the flight I was taking and announced over the cabin speakers that he was waiting for someone to change her mind. I waited for him at the end of the jet bridge as he disembarked, handed him my wedding invitation, and asked with a smile, “Shen Congwen, will you come to my wedding?”
