Saving Humanity in a Pixelated World

On Monday morning, after making her rounds, Si Ning entered the operating room. She was in the middle of some strenuous heavy lifting when a strange nursery rhyme came over the hospital intercom.

“Sunshine shines down from the blue sky, flowers scent the woods.”

“Mosaic, oh Mosaic, you fly freely through the air.”

“Across the fields, across the grass, by the lakeside, over the hills.”

“La la la, free Mosaic. La la la, where are Mosaic’s friends?”

“La la la, Mosaic is you. La la la, Mosaic is me. Together we’ll fly to a land of freedom.”

Looking at the dazzling, multicolored mosaic world before her,

Si Ning, bone mallet in her left hand and bone knife in her right, flung herself into Zhan Zhige’s arms and cooed, “Gie-gie~ I’m so piapia~”

Zhan Zhige trembled. “There, there. Let’s talk this out calmly.”

Si Ning flipped open her little book of grudges. “La la la, whoever talks bad about me, la la la, I’ll wipe them out.”

A certain Mosaic stumbled backward in terror. “Don’t come any closer!”
