After the Empress Died, Her Imperial Husband Went Mad with Regret

Xie Lanting and I were married young, but after I ascended the throne, I did not make him my empress. He was the most promising young head of the Chenliu Xie clan, and I would not trap him in the inner palace and waste his talents. Though we had no official title, everyone knew he was the emperor’s closest confidant and the one she loved.

Yet in the year I fell gravely ill, he was busy storming the home of Ji Mingyun’s husband and dragging out a married woman who had just suffered a miscarriage. The whole court was in an uproar.

The System gloated in my ear. “See? It makes no difference if you refuse the mission. He’ll still betray you.”

I sneered. A dying emperor still had plenty to do. In that case, he would become one more piece in my scheme.
