Liu Xuedong's anti-Japanese feats are shocking; his emotional entanglements with three women are breathtaking; the descriptions of wrestling, cricket fighting, cockfighting, dog fighting, playing with grasshoppers, cooking skills and red sandalwood furniture craftsmanship are also quite fascinating. The novel has a strong visual sense. A group of vivid characters interpret touching and tear-jerking stories one after another, creating a magnificent heroic epic. The goodness and ugliness of human nature can be seen at a glance, and the bloody storm of the times can be seen clearly.
