The Company Went Under the Day After They Fired Me

I worked diligently at the company for ten years. Then a well-connected returnee suddenly parachuted in and took my position. The company promptly chose to fire me. As a final act of goodwill, I asked them to reimburse me for all the work I’d put into the company over the years. The boss refused, then badmouthed me behind my back. “That Xiao Huanxue? She’s old and ugly, and so what if she can draw a few designs? She throws her weight around all day, acting like the company can’t get by without her.” Later, when the company was on the brink of collapse, he begged me to come back. I waved him off. “Sorry, I’m old and ugly. I’m not good enough for your company.”
