Baby, I'm Sorry

My daughter died when the youth center collapsed. My wife, a firefighter, was at the scene too, but she was busy rescuing the father and daughter next door, the man she had always loved. As our daughter took her last breath, she cried and asked me, “Was I not as good as Shanshan, so Mommy wouldn’t save me?” Poor girl. Your mother simply didn’t love your father, and that’s why she didn’t love you. On the day of our daughter’s funeral, I called Su Yan. Irritated, she said, “The father and daughter, A Liang and his girl, only got some scrapes on their scalps. Don’t get jealous and make a scene at a time like this! I’ll be back before midnight to celebrate our daughter’s birthday!” Then she hung up. I looked at the smile in our daughter’s memorial photo, and every last trace of love I had for Su Yan disappeared.
