The Maid Wins the Emperor's Favor: The Noble Consort, Step Aside

In a year of catastrophe, I sold myself into the palace to buy enough food for my family to survive. Later, I became the chief palace maid and confidante of the Noble Consort. On the night before I was old enough to leave the palace and return home, she insisted on pairing everyone up, obsessed as she was with stories where every couple got their happy ending. She said that since she and the Emperor were a couple in the stories, I, as her servant, should pair up with one of the Emperor’s servants.

The eunuch was physically mutilated and twisted in mind. Every night, he tortured me with inhuman cruelty. Covered in blood, I begged the Noble Consort to let me leave the palace, but she said that a palace maid of the Noble Consort and a eunuch of the Emperor were a match made in heaven. To please the Noble Consort, the Emperor slaughtered my entire family so I would stop longing for the outside world and stay in the palace to serve her. The eunuch tortured me to death, while the Noble Consort stepped over my bones and rose to become the Imperial Noble Consort.

After coming back to life, I drank the poison and decisively burst into the imperial study. This time, I’ll climb to power over your bodies.
