The dreams in this story always mention Tang Sanzang and the Monkey King, so it seems a little like a fantasy novel. That's right, even Stephen Chow himself couldn't possibly dream up something like this. So the Tang Sanzang in the dream isn't Li Qing. He's Xiaonan herself, and the Monkey King is her too. One is Xiaonan, who yearns for happiness; the other is Xiaonan, who fears losing it. She struggles back and forth between the two, finds a compromise, and finally attains the “true meaning of Buddhist teachings.”
