After Fei Yang and Xiao Lanzhi marry, Fei Yang decides to work in a coal mine. Not long afterward, Xiao Lanzhi, waiting at home, receives the news that her husband has died. Overcome with grief, she returns to her parents' home, where her stepfather continually harasses her. Despairing, she takes poison to end her life, but encounters the fox spirit Yu Jiao and is resurrected in another body. Gifted with unique abilities, Xiao Lanzhi meets Ding Feng and begins a new life. Many years later, while people spread tales of a drought demon appearing in Hu Jiahe, a hilly region, and of a young couple who hunted it down and narrowly escaped death, Xiao Lanzhi, the famous shamaness known far and wide, has already given birth to two children with Ding Feng.
