Inscription of the Weak Waters

At the heart of the story is Eagle Beak Cliff, in a village shared by the Bu and Yu clans. It follows the lifelong entanglement between Bu Jing'an, daughter of the village master Bu, and Yu Ziqian, adopted son of the wealthy Yu family, and the tragedy their relationship ultimately brings about. A legend says that nine lifetimes of wretched fate can be traded for one lifetime as husband and wife. Bound by karma and past ties, they ultimately fulfill that prophecy. Though their love is as deep as the waters, it leads only to sorrow and parting. The children of the Bu and Yu families, along with all manner of people connected to them by old ties, form the secondary storylines. As the times change, their winding fates give rise to one remarkable tale of love after another. The seemingly devoted and steadfast elders of the Bu and Yu families form a supporting thread that in truth reflects the sorrow born of selfishness among ordinary people, when old values fade and simplicity is lost. In the end, life turns in circles, and we can only return to where we came from. The fated tale of trading nine lifetimes of wretched fate for one lifetime as husband and wife, along with one unresolved past connection after another, unfolds in a haze of illusion and absurdity.
