"Record of Titles" and the title issue in novels
Liang Zhangju of the Qing Dynasty felt that the ancient titles were complicated, especially the synonyms and different meanings that often appeared in different eras, so he wrote a book called "Title Record" to classify these complicated titles. This book has been published by Zhonghua Book Company (with family notes attached) and is priced at 58 yuan. My younger brother bought it and read it. My younger brother also read a few of the Two Tang Dynasty Books, Tang Dynasty Legends, Tang Dynasty Notes and Novels, etc. Regarding the title issue in the Tang Dynasty, it should be said that we have a general understanding. But there is a problem here, that is, some titles are not problematic at all in the context of classical Chinese, but when used in today's vernacular novels, according to the semantic usage of modern people, they always make people feel separated and very different when reading them. For example, when people in the Tang Dynasty called their father, according to the sentence "Aye has no eldest son, Mulan has no eldest brother" in the "Mulan Poems" popular in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the father should be called Aye. (The original version is the character Ye, and the popular version is changed to the character Ye) According to the "Old Book of Tang·Biography of Wang Ju": "Xuanzong cried and said: The fourth brother is benevolent and filial," and he was also called Ruizong. You can also call your father brother. According to the "Book of Northern Qi: Biography of Nanyang Wang Chuo": Chuo brothers all call their father brother. This place is similar to the elder brother in the old Tang books. Any of the above titles for father would be fine in the Tang Dynasty, but in today's vernacular novels, it would be a bit awkward to read. I personally believe that when reading novels, a good experience should be the first priority, rather than getting entangled in the academic research of every word, sentence, and thing. After all, I am not talented enough to do this. In other words, there is really no need to have such high academic expectations for a popular novel. Otherwise, a martial arts novel as powerful as Mr. Jin Yong's would also be found to have made many common sense and geographical mistakes, right? Therefore, it is inevitable that the names and descriptions of some people and things will be changed in this novel, just to make the reading experience of the novel smoother. My brother once said a joke when chatting with a friend: "People who read historical novels often make one mistake, and that is textual criticism. Otherwise, it cannot show his profound attainments in history. When such a person goes out to eat, he must first go to the underworld to invite chefs from thousands of years ago to cook. But, because the chefs of later generations are not authentic enough." When this novel is completed, I may have the opportunity to compile some of the materials and books referenced in the writing process, and add some personal reading experiences, so that Gao Xian can give some advice to readers who are interested in historical research or historical novel creation. The writing is pretty good. It is recommended not to post historical category tags. Are there not more people watching martial arts than this? 🙃 I am the only one who reads historical novels and the first thing I read is solving cases and challenging each other. Isn't this a martial arts novel?
I read a chapter and wanted to know what a first-class assistant is. The introduction didn't say anything about it, so I had to go in and read it. After reading one chapter, I found that the pace was a bit slow. The introduction said that there would be a war in ten days. In the first chapter, it said that the protagonist became a police officer, and it seemed that the process of solving a case would be involved... You have to know what the reader wants to read. The title of the book [First-class Assistant] was read in, but it didn't say anything about an assistant. After reading the introduction, it was calm after ten days of fighting. He also started his career as a police officer and solved a case.
This is my first time writing, I hope everyone passing by can support me. Your collection recommendations, and of course monthly passes, are the motivation for my code.
Since follow-up reading is extremely important for new books, I kindly ask all readers who like this book to read to the latest chapter when you have free time.
Congratulations on the launch! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
