The Idle Consort Only Wants to Climb Over the Wall

Wen Nianruan is an imperial consort, and her life is supposed to follow the script of a palace-intrigue drama. So, is she meant to enter palace-intrigue mode and fight for favor? No way! She just wants to keep a low profile and grow at her own pace. Her greatest dream is to be a lazy fish who can eat, drink, play, and do as she pleases. She just wants to lie around, not turn over. She definitely doesn't want to compete with a bunch of women for one lousy emperor. She just wants to shine on her own. By day, she is Consort Wen, frail as a willow and panting after every few steps. She can charm the Empress Dowager and keep the other consorts in line. Her favorite pastime is gathering a few consorts to play mahjong. By night, she is a troublemaking, cat-burgling thief in the imperial palace. She can climb rooftops and sneak into the Imperial Kitchen. Her favorite pastime is wreaking havoc in the Imperial Kitchen with her cat. She wanted to be a model lazy fish, but someone keeps poking her with a needle and making her turn over. The Empress Dowager pushes her into competing for favor: “Good girl, put in some effort. The position of empress is yours for the taking.” No, no, no! She doesn't want to be empress. She just wants to be a lazy fish who never turns over. Her awful parents try to persuade her: “Good daughter, you must work hard to win the emperor's favor. That's the only way to ensure our marquis household stays prosperous for generations.” What do I care whether the marquis household prospers? Get lost! Her awful sister and scumbag of a man try to manipulate her: “Dear sister, you need to climb higher. Then we can realize our grand ambitions sooner.” They want her to be their stepping-stone? Not a chance, not even through the window! Wen Nianruan planned to stay right where she was, living comfortably as a dried-out lazy fish. Then one night, she met the man in the neighboring palace, as radiant as the moon and pure as snow. From then on, her lazy life had a new goal: Climb over the wall every day! [Both leads have no romantic pasts. Lazy heroine + two-faced hero]
