The calamity-ridden Primordial World suffered catastrophe after catastrophe, from the Tribulation of Creation and the Dragon-Phoenix Tribulation to the Lich Tribulation. These disasters ravaged what had once been a thriving true world, draining away its immortal energy. The Three Realms entered the Age of Declining Dharma: immortal energy was gone, immortals were nowhere to be found, the path to immortality was elusive, and eternal life was out of reach. As the Primordial World evolved, the pursuit of the Immortal Dao gave way to a struggle for supremacy through the Divine Dao of incense offerings. But none could prevail, and all that remained was to fall into stillness. The Three Realms splintered into numerous powerful factions, each locked in fierce conflict over worship and faith. In their quest for the power of faith, they stopped at nothing.
