Back in the 1990S, She Only Wants to Get Rich

Less than two months after Xiang Jin's mother got married, her husband died while working away from home. Xiang Jin's paternal grandparents couldn't bear to part with her mother's dowry, so they schemed to make her marry their younger son instead. Because of the family planning policy, they claimed Xiang Jin was the child her mother had with her former husband, to avoid a fine. That way, her mother was able to give birth to a second child later on. Xiang Jin's “second uncle” had loved someone else before he got married. Perhaps what he couldn't have seemed all the more precious, because he never treated her mother and the two girls very well, let alone cared for them. Then one day, the man who was technically Xiang Jin's father came back in a suit, accompanied by his beloved wife and obedient son. The three women's place in that household became increasingly awkward. Xiang Jin steeled herself and told her mother to get a divorce, then said she and her sister would go with her. From then on, supporting themselves, earning money, and building a better life became Xiang Jin's main goals. But while she was working toward prosperity, the classmate she seemed to run into everywhere suddenly came to her door one day. “You stole my things. Did you think you could just get away with it?” Xiang Jin was flustered, but stubbornly tried to defend herself. “Hey, what kind of joke is that? Have you ever seen a thief steal something and not run away? What, should they wait around to get caught?” He stood tall and elegant, blocking her into a corner. “Hah, you're pretty bold. Looks like you need to be taught a lesson!”
