I Became the Minister’s Medicine

Two major events took place in the royal capital that year: First, the Minister of Revenue was taking a concubine. Second, General Kai Rong, who had guarded the frontier for many years, was returning to court with his troops. The people Chi Mu hated most in life were fortune-tellers. A fortune-teller said she had an excellent destiny, and so she became the concubine of a sixty-year-old man. Another fortune-teller said her flesh and blood were of the highest quality, and so she became a miracle cure fought over by the royal family. But no fortune-teller warned her that a universal cure could also be a poison that ate through her intestines, or that the person she loved could take her life. (In short: a pawn's path to turning the tables.)
