The Crown Princess Just Wants to Coast Through Life

She was notorious in the capital as a harbinger of misfortune. Before meeting him, her life had nothing to do with being cherished. He was the ambitious Crown Prince of the Eastern Palace. Before meeting her, he had never loved anyone. An accident brought him to her side, determined to win her over because he valued her talents. He never expected to fall for her in earnest. … On the third day of the third month, a grand wedding was held in the capital, with an eight-man bridal sedan and a procession stretching for miles. The daughter of a fifth-rank civil official became the Crown Princess of Dayong in a single leap. From then on, she learned what it meant to be cherished. Everyone in the capital knew how doting the Crown Prince was. More than anything, he couldn’t bear to see the Crown Princess angry or in tears. The Crown Princess of the Eastern Palace, as precious as a jewel, was the one his Highness held dearest in his heart. But faced with the jealous stares of the capital’s noblewomen and the Empress Dowager’s caring questions about when she might hold a grandchild, she gradually began to panic. “Hey, aren’t you overdoing the act? If we’re this lovey-dovey, won’t it make it harder for me to ask you for a divorce later?” One night, the Crown Princess asked the Crown Prince, who was sleeping on the floor beside the bed. The Crown Prince turned his head to look at her, his voice languid. “Yes. So what should we do?” She furrowed her brows, thinking hard. “Starting tomorrow, you should be a little colder toward me. Also, the Empress mentioned a few days ago that the Prime Minister’s daughter is gentle and good-natured. Why not marry her as your side consort? The General’s second daughter and the youngest daughter of the Minister of Justice are both excellent too. Pick whichever one you like.” The Crown Prince’s expression darkened. He climbed onto the bed and glared at her fiercely. “Nonsense! You’re the only one I like!”
