The Empress Turns the Tables

A flicker of pain crossed his eyes. “Heh... Mu Xi, is this how you treat me? You are my empress, yet your heart belongs to Shen Jinchen?” Her heart brimming with hatred, she replied, “Yes. The only person I, Mu Xi, will ever love, in this life or the next, is A Jin!” Years later. After enduring countless trials, she finally managed to escape the imperial palace by the skin of her teeth. Shen Jinchen took her hand. “Xixi, come with me. I’m willing to let go of our past grievances and abandon my revenge. Let’s leave this place of endless strife and spend the rest of our lives together.” Mu Xi let him lead her away. Then, suddenly, she stopped and looked back at the resplendent imperial city, her eyes clouded with conflicting emotions. Her heart was in turmoil, her thoughts a tangled mess. Somehow, the image of that man gradually surfaced in her mind. That night, she had accidentally wounded him with her blade. When the wound became infected and his fever wouldn’t break, she had stayed by his side all night, caring for him. When she was ambushed, he had risked his life to shield her from a sword. He was willing to die for her. Whenever she was in danger, he always appeared in time to protect her. Her every joy and sorrow affected his mood... She murmured to herself, “So I’d secretly let him into my heart. So I’m in love with that man.”
