The Guardian from Shennong

Did you know that the life you live beneath the heavens is not the only one? Some worlds are strange and fantastical, others crisscross like a web of paths. Some teem with traffic and people, while others are filled with curling wisps of cooking smoke... Gods, ghosts, demons, and humans each have their own worlds and their own lives. For billions of years, each world stood alone, until one day, a chance intersection brought about an encounter unlike any other. Was that encounter right or wrong?

Some say meeting is fate; others say it is a calamity. If it was fate, it led everyone onto a path with no way back. If it was a calamity, then no one regretted stepping onto that path.

The scenery along the way was like fine wine: sweet and crisp on the tongue, yet quietly numbing every defense. Willingly, in a hazy drunkenness, they walked toward a fate from which there could be no return...

This wine was called longing.

Whenever I’m alone, I can feel my heart beating in time with another. Even though I can no longer see you, I know you’re there, basking in the same sunlight and gazing up at the same stars as me.

You don’t want me to be alone, and I won’t leave you alone, either.
