When looking at ancient Chinese, the authors switch smoothly between ancient Chinese and vernacular descriptions. The reason is that even the vernacular descriptions have a hint of ancient Chinese - that is, using the structure of ancient Chinese to write in vernacular. Looking at the author's articles, I just feel that the switching between vernacular and ancient Chinese is not smooth. Often the first section is vernacular, followed by ancient Chinese.
