The Immortal-Demon Code

Tens of thousands of years ago, the realms of humans, immortals, and demons were not yet divided. Immortals and demons fought without end, bringing misery and devastation to all living things. In those days, the immortal realm was led by Immortal Fuyun of Evergreen Mountain, while the demon realm was ruled by the fearsome Demon Lord Han Ling of Death Valley. Seventeen was the seventeenth and youngest disciple under Immortal Fuyun. Gifted and bright, she was also simplehearted. To kill the Demon Lord in one fell swoop, the immortal realm devised a plan: strip Seventeen of her cultivation, implant a soul-controlling spell, and send her to Death Valley to lure the Demon Lord into the immortals’ trap. Three years later, the Demon Lord was killed, leaving the demon realm leaderless, and the immortal realm’s might shook the world. Everyone said the immortals were compassionate: to destroy a fearsome demon, they had painfully sacrificed their beloved disciple. It was a tale both tragic and inspiring. Only Seventeen was left confused: What is an immortal? What is a demon?
