Between the Memories of Father and Son

Outside the window at night, heavy rain pours down, and the coffee in the cup looks as calm as a lake. Chambers scooped up two sugar cubes with a small spoon and smoothly brought the sugar cubes to the mouth of the cup. When the spoon turned over, the sugar cubes sank silently into the coffee. The small spoon was clean and not stained with coffee, but Chambers tapped it on the rim of the cup anyway, and the sound was a clear and short "ding".
