She really had the worst luck. Her mother died giving birth to her. After spending more than a decade in the countryside, she returned to the capital for the funeral, only to be taken as a concubine by Yi Hexu, who had been confined to his manor for more than a decade. Rumor said he was world-weary and volatile. At their first meeting, he nearly strangled her. She held back his shadowed hand and told him who she was. Seeing the blood on the cloth and hearing him speak of his own hardships, she also felt the tenderness he showed her. Right then, she decided to trust him and stay by his side for the rest of her life, without regret or resentment. The lonely Yi Hexu gradually let go of his suspicions and came to believe she was the one. Together, they sought a life of peace. To protect that peace, they kept their sharp edges hidden and struck with deadly force, making others fear and beware them.
