The Eldest Daughter of the Nineties Is a Little Too Cool

They say it’s hard for children from poor families to rise to prominence. That your family background determines your future. That studying is useless, and women should just accept their lot and keep their heads down. Qu Fan refused to accept this. She vowed to change the bleak, impoverished circumstances she’d been born into. The first time a certain young master saw Qu Fan, he boasted to his childhood friend, “That country bumpkin gold-digger? I’ll have her wrapped around my finger in less than a month. Wanna bet?” In that bet, the self-proclaimed undefeated lady-killer lost, and lost badly. It took more than ten years for him to finally win the beauty’s heart. On their wedding day, he wept buckets. Why? Those were tears of excitement and bitterness, and bitter they were! One day, Qu Fan asked a certain doting dad, “I heard you only wanted to have a little fun with me back then, and even made a bet on it?” The young master expertly changed a diaper. “That’s right. It was one hell of a gamble, and I got suckered into it. Guess what goes around comes around!” “Oh, what goes around comes around?” came the ominous grinding of teeth. The young master’s scalp tingled. He stood at attention. “Reporting to my dear wife: I, Pei, am willing to pay for this karma for the rest of my life, and many lifetimes after that!” “Good!” The little baby giggled: “A big gamble is fun once, but it’s fun forever if you keep gambling big!”
