I Hope My Youth Never Lost You

Song Huanian felt she had wasted all the beauty of her youth on Huo Yicheng. She was nine that year. Her parents divorced, and she went with her father. She shoved Huo Yicheng and told him she hated him. The second time she saw the battered Huo Yicheng was at the hospital. She decided then to treat him well for the rest of her life, looking after his meals and clothes and raising him with care. Little did she know he would show no gratitude, repeatedly sabotaging her first love. When she was twelve, he said, “You can’t leave me behind.” At fourteen, he said, “I’ll take care of you from now on. You don’t need those lousy men out there!” At sixteen, he said, “When I turn twenty-two, I’m going to marry you.” Her fear turned to fluttering affection, but just as love began to take root, her parents opposed them fiercely, even threatening to take their own lives. With no other choice, Song Huanian left for distant lands. Six years later, they met again. When the proud, unruly boy came sweeping toward her like a gale, carrying all the love in his heart, Song Huanian realized she no longer had the strength to resist. No matter how great the obstacles, she was willing to walk beside him.
