Liu Rushi, a Famous Prostitute in Jinling

Liu Rushi was a famous prostitute in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, the first of the "Eight Beauties of Qinhuai". Her love story with Qian Qianyi, a literary leader at the time, was widely circulated. She was also a chivalrous woman who supported and helped her husband's restoration of the Ming Dynasty and the anti-Qing Dynasty. She funded rebels such as Zheng Chenggong and Zhang Huangyan, and went to the ancient battlefield where the anti-gold general Liang Hongyu once stood, expressing her determination to fight the Qing army to the end. It was a pity that Zheng Chenggong failed to attack Nanjing and was defeated. She sacrificed her life for righteousness and planned to die for her country. Later, after the death of Qian Qianyi, who was decades older than her, she was so disheartened that she hanged herself with a rope, leaving her last words - to be buried in a hanging coffin to show that she would not live in the land of the Qing Dynasty.
