A Hundred Feet Deep in the Mortal World

How much deceit is there in this world, and how much true devotion?

Twelve years ago

She was so innocent she could make promises without a second thought. Her words, “If we cherish each other,” still rang in his ears, but cruel reality shattered her completely.

With her mysterious origins and other people's schemes, she had no idea where to turn. This was Min Ying;

He had spent years maneuvering through a world of deceit, yet she touched his heart so simply. But when all the gains and losses were laid before him once more,

he still tried to numb himself into forgetting the woman with the flower-like smile, though in the end he was only fooling himself. This was Jing Xu;

And he, too, was merely a fleeting passerby in this mortal world. He treated life as a game, hiding his great talents behind laughter and scorn,

but little by little, she had already carved herself into his heart. This was Wen Zhou.

Twelve years later

Min Ying set foot once more on the land that had broken her heart. With a sharp gaze that saw through the ways of the world, she had changed from a reckless girl into a composed and perceptive woman. Facing everything that had happened,

her gaunt face bore no trace of the girl she once was. Her life now consisted of cautious schemes, day after day and night after night.

And he remained trapped in the struggle for power, unable to free himself. Yet the tears that sometimes came to his eyes in the middle of the night told him the truth: she was still in his heart.

Then there was Xu Yuan. After twelve years at her side, he still could not enter her heart. All he could do was swallow his endless sorrow and protect her in silence.

Often, the hardest thing to fathom is the human heart. As the world rises and falls around us, we eventually shed all our innocence and ignorance, and become frightening.

The mortal world is fragile, and the road to the underworld is hard to cross. Let us speak no more of heartbreak.
