Back in the Republic of China to Become a Master

Back in the Republican era, I couldn’t just be a rickshaw puller. I sang songs, wrote books, cursed people in the newspapers, spread rumors about myself and a few socialite ladies, and penned them love poems now and then.

I only wanted to live a low-key life, but somehow I became a master.

“Mr. Lu, could you sign this for me?”

“Sorry, I need to rest my wrist today.”

“Mr. Lu, I’m willing to pay ten thousand silver dollars.”

“Money can ruin a good relationship. I’ll make an exception and grant your request. Just bring the money by later. There’s no rush.”
