Love in Fengcheng

The late-autumn sunlight is so bright. Even if they merely brush past each other in a crowd, they will turn around and recognize one another at once, though they have never met before. Zhang Xiaowei firmly believed this feeling ran deep, though it was now warmed by the sunshine, a little intoxicating, yet as mellow as fine wine, seeping into the skin. On some day, perhaps after a fresh summer rain, perhaps at autumn dusk as tired birds returned to their nests, perhaps at the turn from spring to summer after the last spring blossoms had faded, Zhang Xiaowei had more than once tried to recall the day they met, but she could never remember exactly when it was. In any case, it was on some such day that she followed a link to an address, and the name there sparked her keen interest. “When ‘can swim in water’ met ‘can fly in the sky’...” Zhang Xiaowei often used those words to describe the beginning of a story from her past. Some longing brings pain, while other longing leaves you lost. A night of frost cuts through the green lotus leaves, leaving the autumn rain unable to form pearls. Besides, the sun is so lovely today. I don’t want to greet him rashly or disturb him. I’m only afraid I’ll long for him even more. “Below the green hills lies a prairie, where a girl spends her days and nights longing. Within her longing is a name, and within that name lies the man she loves. “Below the green hills lies a village, the home where longing resides. Within that home is a secret: a man waiting for the girl he loves. “No need for scriptures, no need to wander. Follow the love in your heart, and bathe together in love’s holy light. “The prairie lends its vastness, the village its tranquility, and together they bless the girl as she takes her beloved by the hand. “Time will carve the years upon the girl’s face, but her beloved will love her forever, until the end of time.”
