Spring Returns, but Its Traces Are Lost

He said, “I’ll be right here, waiting for you. I’ll wait for you to come home.”

She said, “Goodbye. I hope you’ll always be well. May we never meet again in another life.”

She is the youngest empress dowager in Dayue. He is the newly enthroned emperor. Was she simply too ruthless, or was he truly too weak and incompetent?

“Fate has been cruel, but I’m willing to walk this road with you, because you’re the one by my side.”

“Maybe we were wrong from the very beginning.”

Is the world really too small to make room for their love, so shocking to all? What is the truth beneath the passage of time?

You still do not know my heart. With no choice, I break the strings of the zither. Do you still remember? Love winds and turns before the peach grove. A dream of empty splendor, tears staining red sleeves. Carved balustrades and jade steps have changed their hue. Before a cold moon, I whisper through my tears. I gaze upon a garden full of grass, my face lonely; I dance with sleeves full of wind, while an old friend has gone far away. You still do not know my heart. The past can never return. Do you still remember? The wind at the edge of the world blows away the years.

One lifetime, one world, one pair; half in a dream, half awake, half a life adrift.

Where will their love finally lead?

Where has spring gone? There is no path to follow in its lonely departure. If anyone knows where spring has gone, call it back to stay with us.

Who knows where spring has gone without a trace? Unless we ask the orioles. Their hundred songs go unanswered, and they fly away on the breeze, past the roses.
