"I'm not a monster. I'm not. Don't leave me... Please..." Ouyang Xuebing murmured in her sleep. Unsettled, she curled into a ball and trembled slightly.
Cheng Feng came to his senses, still stunned. He shook his head helplessly and couldn't help smiling. She was just a little demon, but she still needed warmth. He wrapped her in a blanket, leaned against the headboard, and held her in his arms. It was the second time he had fallen asleep holding her.
Ouyang Xuebing seemed to feel the warmth, too. She nestled into his arms and finally grew still, her breathing calm.
When the first rays of morning light entered the room, Ouyang Xuebing woke. Her head throbbed. She opened her eyes and saw Cheng Feng. Struggling to sit up, she realized she was wrapped in a blanket. Cheng Feng had slept fully clothed, while she had nothing on but her underwear.
"You're awake?" Cheng Feng said, trying to sit up, only to discover that half his body had gone numb.
Smack! Ouyang Xuebing slapped him.
The unexpected slap left Cheng Feng reeling, but anger quickly took its place.
"What is wrong with you?" he growled.
"What’s wrong with me? What did you do to me?" Ouyang Xuebing said, looking at him with anger and hurt.
"What do you think I did?" Cheng Feng asked, looking at her. Somehow, he was no longer as angry.
Ouyang Xuebing's eyes instantly turned gold. Her hand glowed red as she raised it and swung a punch at Cheng Feng.
"Stop!" Cheng Feng cried. Sensing trouble, he quickly rolled aside, but after holding her all night without moving, his body was stiff. He toppled onto the floor.
At that moment, Ouyang Xuebing froze as if possessed, staring at him. She knew she had changed. She waited for Cheng Feng to run away or scream, but he only rubbed his sore backside and stood up.
"So this is how you repay someone who saved you? Are you trying to beat me to death?" Cheng Feng said, sounding rather aggrieved.
"Aren't you afraid of me?" Ouyang Xuebing asked, unable to believe it.
"What would I be afraid of?" Cheng Feng said with a smile.
"I..." Ouyang Xuebing didn't know what to say. The gold slowly faded from her eyes, which grew misty with tears.
Seven years later, time had proven a good medicine. Many wounds slowly healed, but in Ouyang Xuebing's heart, no, she was now called Qi Xue, something remained. After living quietly on her own in a small English town for three years, she officially joined her father's group and took the name Qi Xue as Qi Hongbo's adopted daughter. She was the envy of everyone, yet there was always an empty place in her heart. The wound there no longer hurt so much; it had simply become a void.
Did she still love him, or hate him? And what about him?
